How a journalist became a communications strategist

After nearly 20 years in the newsroom, I looked around and asked myself, “OK. What’s next?”

Turns out, the answer wasn’t too distant.

With a commitment to working exclusively with mission-driven entrepreneurs, authors and organizations, I stood up Communications Strategies to provide media relations, speaking engagement management and content services.

My approach relies on my experience as a journalist. I know what it’s like to receive hundreds of pitches per hour. And I know what makes a good one. Providing value to the audience is priority one. It’s what informs strategy—not just for media relations but for all communications efforts.

The nature of my client relationships is non-negotiable. It is a partnership. I work with people who understand what’s involved in public relations, and are willing to put in the effort. My job is to lead that experience, make it painless and show how it creates value aligned to business objectives.
